GENRE (S)

Femininity has always been able to defend itself, taking different directions, back alleys and other liberties. Now, as women are quietly digging their way into men’s territory, they are looking through the male wardrobe to find classic, rare or ordinary pieces to make them even more feminine.

At Merci, women have always sought inspiration from men, borrowing archetypes they alter for themselves to highlight their femininity. In October, the exhibition titled Gender(s) is an opportunity to celebrate the freedom for everyone to make their own interpretation of fashion. By blurring the line between genders, we are finally coming to grips with gender itself, and especially the idea of femininity, in its most archetypal expression: genderless wardrobe, vintage curation, emphasis on materials including wool broadcloth, poplin, felt and mohair.
