After 18 years of apprenticeship in hat-making, Ehrhardt Koch launched New Era in 1920. In the 1930s, baseball became increasingly popular in the USA. Even then, players wore caps to protect themselves from the sun. New Era then began producing baseball caps, and success followed. In fact, as early as 1934, New Era became the official cap supplier for the Cleveland Indians.
